Autumn at the Arboretum with Pumpkins, Gourds and Squash

More than 90,000 pumpkins are sprouting in the Texas Panhandle this month, the 11th annual Autumn at the Arboretum national fall festival. Named one of “America’s Best Pumpkin Festivals” by Fodor’s Travel the event highlight The Art of the Pumpkin through November 23 at the Dallas Arboretum and Botanical Garden. The popular one-acre Pumpkin Village features artful arrangements of thousands of pumpkins, gourds, squash, bales of hay and cornstalks to create fanciful tableaus.

Highlights include the Tom Thumb Pumpkin Patch offering pumpkins for purchase, the Great Pumpkin Search, concerts, Nature Nights, Garden Melodies, Sculpture Tours,  the Oktoberfest Beer Garten, Monarchs on the Move, plus Columbus Day weekend festivities featuring the Eddie Coker Children’s Concert.

Pumpkin Painting, Mommy & Me Mondays and Tiny Tot Tuesdays, Book Readings with Delbert the Dragon and Spooky Maze Scavenger Hunt provide special fun for select groups. For adults, Style in partnership with Perennial Plant Association teaches valuable skills.

The Great Contributors exhibit by Sculptor Gary Lee Price has eight, life-size bronze statues that are great for selfies with Abraham Lincoln, Benjamin Franklin, George Washington, Claude Monet, Albert Einstein, William Shakespeare, Mark Twain or the Wright Brothers.
