Organic Farming Conference in Rockwall

The Texas Organic Farmers and Gardeners Association (TOFGA) will host its annual conference from February 11 through 13 in Rockwall, near Dallas, with 35 workshops with expert presenters from around the U.S. Workshop topics focus on crop and livestock production, business management and marketing, gardening, food systems and food policy.

A workshop Why Farms Fail and What to Do About It will help farmers and highlight the new-to-Texas Whole Farm Revenue Protection program that offers insurance coverage for diversified farms that has not been previously available.

Preconference workshops on February 11 include farm tours in Hillsboro and near Lake Tawakoni. The Farm to School Round Up is a training event for anyone interested in the fundamentals and connections needed to get local Texas food into public schools.

Texas organic agriculture and gardening is one of the fastest-growing areas of the organic industry, and demand far exceeds the supply. As farmers retire, TOFGA continues to connect and educate the beginning farmer and help current farmers survive this risky business.
