Special Hybrid Fuel Parking Zones on the Way

The nonprofit North Texas Commission (NTC) is offering “AFV (Alternative Fuel Vehicle)-Preferred” parking signs to businesses at no cost on a first-come, first-served basis, as well as a limited number of sign stands. They see it as a way to incentivize individuals to drive alternative fuel vehicles and help improve regional air quality. The parking signs are just the first phase in the NTC work to promote alternate-fuel vehicles in North Texas.

“Texas is second only to California for number of alternative fuel vehicles on the roads. The AFV-Preferred Parking Program not only rewards those drivers, but also raises awareness of these vehicles and their ability to improve North Texas air quality,” says Robert Kent, director of public policy for the NTC. “The goal is to have a standardized sign for alternative fuel reserved parking spaces across the region.” Phase two includes a smartphone application for drivers of AFVs that will provide information on the locations of AFV re-fueling stations and preferred parking.

Businesses can contact Kent at 972-621-0400 or [email protected]. For more information about the program, visit NTXGreenParking.com.
