Dallas YMCA Turkey Trot

A Thanksgiving tradition since 1968, the Dallas YMCA Turkey Trot will take place on Thanksgiving Day, November 24, on the Dallas City Hall Plaza, including an eight-mile race and 5K fun run to benefit YMCA programs that help to strengthen the foundations of the community. New this year is a Team Challenge for groups of four to six to compete for special awards. Even dogs can be registered and receive a cool Y-Trot bandana and race bib.

The first Turkey Trot was held at the Old Fair Grounds in the 1940s, but the eight-mile races began in 1968, when the 107 participants were instructed to run along the shores of White Rock Lake “to the big oak tree and back.” In 1979, the race was moved downtown are to accommodate more runners.
