Electric Car Company Works to Replenish Texas Forests

According to the Texas Forest Service, recent tornados and drought have destroyed more than 500 million trees statewide, or 10 percent of the state’s total. In response, eVgo, a subsidiary of NRG Energy, Inc., has launched a program, EVs for Trees, to raise funds for planting and maintaining trees in Texas.

eVgo has partnered with local tree planting organizations, retail energy providers and auto dealerships to provide drivers with an added incentive to test drive an electric vehicle (EV) through the EVs for Trees program. When customers test drive a 100 percent electric Mitsubishi "i" or Nissan LEAF before December 1 at a participating EVs for Trees dealership, the dealer will donate $25 to the Texas Tree Foundation in North Texas or Trees for Houston. If the driver is a Green Mountain Energy or Reliant customer, these companies will donate an extra $25.

Test drive vouchers will be available for download online at EVsforTrees.com and will be distributed at eVgo exhibits at approximately 80 events across Texas, including the State Fair. No purchase is necessary. Participating EVs for Trees dealerships in the Metroplex include Don Herring Mitsubishi Irving, Don Herring Mitsubishi Plano, Grubbs Nissan, Nissan of McKinney and Mossy Nissan.
