Sense of Community at Heart of Natural Health Shop

Dec 31, 2012 04:00PM ● By Katie Pruett

For those with a desire to learn more about healthy living, proper nutrition and weight loss, the first step on the path to wellness might well be a visit to Natural Health Shop, in Richardson. The store recently celebrated three years as a community leader in health and wellness.

The past three years represent just the tip of the iceberg for sibling owners Dia and Chad Slaieh, who are applying a lifetime of lessons to their family business. “Our father was very big on health, so we grew up being educated about health and wellness,” Dia says.

It was that early education and a passion for sharing their knowledge with others that motivated Dia and Chad to open Natural Health Shop. Providing natural vitamins, supplements and other specialty products, they have a variety of items that serve specific health and wellness needs; but what they offer to the community goes beyond what sits on the shelves. “We really strive to be more involved with helping people make healthier living choices,” says Dia.

To that end, in addition to everyday in-store service, Natural Health Shop recently began hosting seminars and health festivals where customers can receive education about products and health topics of interest. In November, their third annual Natural Health Fair featured 40 booths focused on healthy living, including nutritionists, chiropractors and product vendors offering free samples and tastings. “We are all about health and wellness, and will continue to share that with the community,” avers Dia.

There is no sign of their slowing down, because in the coming year, Natural Health Shop will be hosting a SuperFood Slim Down seminar at 7 p.m., January 17, and a Living Clay Detox seminar in March.

In the end, it’s the customers and the community that are at the center of their business. Dia isn’t shy about sharing how important it is to the staff that customers receive specialty care. She states, “As a local store, we work closely with our customers to ensure they receive the products and education they are looking for. If there’s a product we can get for a client, we’ll do it.”
