How Many Birds Are There in the Sky?

Discover the mystery and majesty of birding by participating in River Legacy’s Great Backyard Bird Count Festival on February 15. The River Legacy Living Science Center will lead guided bird walks and host a family-friendly festival from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. as part of the 17th annual Great Backyard Bird Count, a four-day global event led by the National Audubon Society and the Cornell Lab of Ornithology. The count gives participants a chance to be citizen scientists by collecting valuable data for Cornell’s research program.

Activities for kids include creating bird silhouettes, origami cranes and bird-nesting bags, dissecting owl pellets, face painting and playing bird-oriented games. Family-friendly bird walks and group counts are scheduled for 10:15 a.m., 11 a.m., noon and 1 p.m. Participants are encouraged to bring binoculars and cameras.

Location: 703 NW Green Oaks Blvd., Arlington. For more information, call 817-860-6752  or visit RiverLegacy.org. To learn more about the Great Backyard Bird Count, visit BirdCount.org.
