The Aquaponic Source Awarding Grants for Schools

The Aquaponic Source has begun a new Grants for Plants foundation (GrantsForPlants.org) that supplies funding for schools to place and successfully operate aquaponic systems in their classrooms. Schools can apply for the grants, visit the site for information on additional gardening grant resources, connect with other schools via a forum and more.Aquaponics is a gardening technique where raising plants and fish is done symbiotically, with the fish providing nutrients to the plants.
Sylvia Bernstein, founder of the Aquaponic Source, in Longmont, Colorado, author of the award-winning book, Aquaponic Gardening: A Step by Step Guide to Growing Fish and Vegetables Together, says,“Having an aquaponic gardening system in the classroom is an exciting benefit for students and teachers alike, and it’s easy to set up and maintain. Students will learn a sustainable way to grow food, as well as get a fascinating, hands-on science lesson. They can use that information to then create an aquaponic garden at home, too.”
