October Gardening Tips from Rohdes Organic Nursery

Fall is the time for planting all the cool-season veggies like beets, Brussels sprouts, lettuce, carrots, radishes, sprouts, cabbage, spinach, collards, onions and garlic. It’s also cool-season herb time, including cilantro, dills, fennels, parsleys, rosemary, thyme, mints and oregano. It’s also time for wildflower seeds, too. Cool-season annuals such as snapdragons, kale, violas and pansies should be planted this month, as well as ground covers, trees, shrubs and perennials.

After all this is planted, the most important fall activity is fertilization, to roots grow all winter when they need to be fed. Make sure to mulch all fallen leaves intoslow-release fertilizer that can be used for everything. Lastly—mulch, mulch, mulch.
