Dallas Blooms Flower Show at Dallas Arboretum
Apr 01, 2015 12:49PM
Dallas Blooms, the largest floral festival in the Southwest, has been a tradition for 30 years, and this year’s show plays homage to our state with the theme of Dallas Blooms: Deep in the Hearts of Texans, from February 28 through April 12. More than 500,000 spring-blooming bulbs and life-size Texas themed topiaries, entertainment, food and special activities will be on display. Bill Graue, Dallas Arboretum board chairman, says, “Our horticultural department has planted more than 500,000 spring-blooming bulbs—the largest display of tulips in a public garden anywhere west of Holland. There are also thousands of azaleas and dozens of Japanese cherry trees blossoming throughout the spring.”
Dallas Blooms features tulips, daffodils, Dutch Iris and hyacinths, pansies, violas and thousands of other springtime annuals and perennials that bloom throughout the entire festival, so the garden changes all the time. The finale of this celebration is the mass flowering of the garden’s collection of 3,000 azaleas that bloom through the end of April.
Other highlights include Mommy and Me Mondays & Tiny Tot Tuesdays; children’s activities such as face painting, petting zoo, nature art and Kindermusik; Western-style photo opportunities around a chuck wagon pulled by two horse topiaries; live music; pony rides, a trick roper; the Spring Festival Tea; and Rory Meyers Children’s Adventure Garden. In the eight-acre scientific children’s garden, where science and fun become one, there are 150 interactive exhibits, many of which include technology, where guests can learn about pollination, habitats, photosynthesis, electricity and more.
Easter Activities include a concert by Eddie Coker and a children’s concert, face painting, crafts and a petting zoo, Artscape is where beauty of art meets the beauty of nature. This juried art fair features artists from around the country, artist demonstrations, entertainment and food and fun for all ages. The Cool Thursdays Concert Series includes national cover bands and some of the Metroplex’s best food trucks.
