It’s that time again for The State Fair of Texas, with its college football classics, Midways, decadent fried-food concoctions and the celebration of all things Texas. This years’ State Fair is September 25 to October 18, in historic Fair Park. This is the 129th year for the country’s largest state fair.

The theme for 2015 is “Passport to Texas”. In addition to the venerable creative arts competitions, livestock competitions and the State Fair Auto Show,  new and improved attractions, include the Lone Star Horse Spectacular, the Mattress Firm Illumination Sensation, the Beer Haven, the Rooster Crowing Contest, the ZuZu African Acrobats and the kid-friendly Big Tex’s Farmyard.

Participating food vendors will offer one of their signature menu items at a reduced price, during the newly added “Thrifty Thursdays”. See a list of participating vendors at BigTex.com/ThriftyThursdays.

State Fair hours are 9 a.m. to 10 p.m., Sunday through Thursday and 9 a.m. to 11 p.m., Friday and Saturday.
