Dallas YMCA Turkey Trot

A Thanksgiving tradition since 1968, the Dallas YMCA Turkey Trot will take place on Thanksgiving Day, November 24, on the Dallas City Hall Plaza, including an eight-mile race and 5K fun run to benefit YMCA programs that help to strengthen the foundations of the community. New this year is a Team Challenge for groups of four to six to compete for special awards. Even dogs can be registered and receive a cool Y-Trot bandana and race bib.

The first Turkey Trot was held at the Old Fair Grounds in the 1940s, but the eight-mile races began in 1968, when the 107 participants were instructed to run along the shores of White Rock Lake β€œto the big oak tree and back.” In 1979, the race was moved downtown are to accommodate more runners.
