The first 500 Bob Jones Nature Center members and individuals that preregister to attend the annual Butterfly Festival from 9 to 11 a.m., September 22, will be granted access to the release and festival for a $2 fee. The Perennial Garden Society purchased the butterflies for this event.

All attendees will learn about the importance of the monarch butterfly migration, participate in face-painting, make butterfly crafts, have fun tossing seed bombs during the costume parade, enjoy refreshments, discover local vendors and purchase delicious meals from participating food trucks.

The number of monarch butterflies has decreased significantly over the last 20 years, but together we can save the monarch. In the U.S., there is a massive effort to provide habitat for monarch butterflies, imperiled bumblebees and other pollinators. There is no one group or agency responsible for providing the habitat needed for monarch conservation, but all organizations, agencies, and individuals must work together to improve, restore and create grassland habitats to save monarchs.
