Texas State Parks Reopening to Public April 20th

Apr 08, 2020 09:57PM ● By Annalise Combs

At the direction of Gov. Greg Abbott, Texas State Parks will be reopened to the public for day use only, effective Monday, April 20, as part of Governor Abbott's phased-in process of reopening Texas.  There are of course restrictions, as COVID-19 remains a very real threat in Texas.

Overnight camping is still prohibited and you will need to wear face masks and practice social distancing - that is, keeping 6 feet between yourself and others that are not in your group.  Also groups of more than 5 are prohibited.  As well, visitors must make reservations and pay park fees online.  No park rangers will be at Park entrances to take payments

Online registration opens Sunday at noon at TPWD.texas.gov.  You can find maps, Park guides and the Park app there.

Outdoor recreational opportunities such as hunting, fishing, biking, jogging, walking, hiking, wildlife viewing, and the like are essential activities for Texas citizens. TPWD will continue to do its part to actively encourage and promote these opportunities in ways that are safe and close to home, said Abbott.

General park information can be found at TexasStateParks.org.
