North Texas based Pizza Hut has joined forces with Beyond Meat, Inc. to develop two new pizzas featuring plant-based sausage. For the new Beyond Pan Pizzas—Beyond Italian Sausage Pizza and The Great Beyond Pizza—plant-based Italian “pork” sausage is made with a mix of Italian herbs and spices including garlic, onion, paprika and fennel seeds. The main source of protein in is from peas, rather than animals.

Pizza Hut parent Yum Brands and Beyond Meat already have an established partnership selling meat alternatives in Taco Bell and KFC. Pizza Hut restaurants in Puerto Rico and the United Kingdom also sell the meatless sausage. Beyond Meat CEO Ethan Brown says, “A lot of people can make a crumble out of protein these days, but this is something special, because we took the time with Pizza Hut to get it right.”
