More Choices for Natural Care: New Star Chiropractic & Acupuncture Wellness Center

Dr. Zhanping Lu

Doctor of Chiropractic Zhanping Lu, founder of New Star Chiropractic & Acupuncture Wellness Center, offers patients a variety of natural wellness modalities at his clinic. His practice combines acupuncture, Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), chiropractic, detoxification and Nambudripd’s Allergy Elimination Techniques (NAET), an innovative, non-invasive treatment for allergies.

Lu was born and raised in the coastal city of Yantai, China, and always had a desire to be in a helping profession. Knowing that a career in the medical field would be a good avenue toward helping people, he studied and trained at the Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences, a state-level academic center for medical sciences, then at QingDao University Medical College, in Shandon, and practiced as a neurologist in China.

In 1991, Lu was invited to participate in research programs funded by the National Institutes of Health and the National Science Foundation at the University of South Carolina Medical School. He quickly noticed the differences between medical care in China and the conventional U.S. health care system. “Clinically, I saw that there were all these pharmaceutical drugs to address symptoms, but for the root causes of chronic conditions, Western medicine didn’t offer solutions,” he observes. “TCM addresses root causes through modalities like acupuncture and natural herbs.”

During his years of working on research projects and seeing cases in the  U.S., Lu learned about chiropractic medicine, which corrects mechanical stressors that shift the spine and put pressure on the spinal nerve, interfering with their signals to the rest of the body and leading to health issues. In 1995, Lu moved to Dallas to attend Parker University (formerly Parker College of Chiropractic).

Lu wanted to transfer to a clinic setting that combined TCM with natural modalities of the Western world such as chiropractic. In 1998, he opened New Star Chiropractic & Acupuncture Wellness Center, in Plano, where he addresses issues such as allergies, diabetes, autism, chronic pain, menopausal symptoms, weight loss, sports injuries, osteoporosis and more.

Lu explains how acupuncture and chiropractic modalities complement each other; “Acupuncture is like the software; it improves circulation and releases blocked qi, or energy, in the body, which helps with muscle spasms and pain caused by inflammation. Chiropractic addresses the hardware; it aligns and stabilizes the spine, releasing pinched nerves that cause pain or organs to malfunction.”

Acupuncture is often combined with Chinese herbal remedies to help with specific ailments. While chiropractic is frequently used to treat individuals with neuromusculoskeletal complaints such as headaches and neck or joint pain, allergies, asthma, digestive disorders and other ailments can be addresses through proper spinal alignment, Lu notes.

In addition to TCM and chiropractic, Lu uses a variety of techniques and treatments to restore proper function to help the body heal itself. NAET employs non-invasive medical, computerized and kinesiological muscle response testing to mildly stimulate the central nervous system in the presence of each allergen. This technique reprograms the brain so it no longer interprets the presence of the allergen as a threat.

In addition, Lu also uses immune modulation & allergy elimination Technology (IMAET), a biofeedback and relaxation management instrument. The non-invasive device records reactive informational potentials provided by the client into computer software that evaluates the responses. The IMAET device then assists the body’s own relaxation and stress management mechanisms by encouraging a sense of harmony and balance. Detoxification and nutrition counseling round out his toolbox of natural wellness modalities.

“I use chiropractic, acupuncture and NAET all together in my clinic to address most conditions like pain, allergies and autism,” Lu advises. “By combining these natural therapies, we can get people off pharmaceuticals, which are short-term solutions, but do not get to the root causes of diseases. Through TCM, NAET and chiropractic, I can help more people.”
