A New View of Breast Health Comes to North Texas

For North Texas women who dread the compression of a mammogram or have concerns about radiation exposure, a new breast-imaging option coming to Dallas may be welcome news. 

Quantum Breast Imaging uses sound waves rather than X-rays to create detailed, true 3D images of breast tissue—without ionizing radiation, breast compression, needles or contrast injections. Until now, local women interested in accessing the technology had to travel out of state. 

Holistic practitioners Drs. Michael Einsohn and Sowmya Sridharan, who have decades of experience caring for women, are bringing the technology to North Texas after years of offering thermography through The Thermography Center of Dallas and Hygieia Wellness Clinic. 

“We feel that women today have limited options when it comes to imaging, therefore, we explored an approach that could reveal meaningful structural information, while also addressing concerns women have about traditional mammography—particularly compression and radiation,” they say. 

Their search led to QT Imaging, founded by Dr. John Klock in 2011. “We were immediately intrigued by the technology and the potential it offers to broaden the way we think about breast imaging,” Einsohn and Sridharan say. “Our patients were interested in accessing QT Imaging but had to travel out of state to do so. North Texas women now have another option for advanced, radiation-free breast imaging technology to discuss with their healthcare providers.” 

A Different Imaging Experience 

QT uses advanced ultrasound technology to create a comprehensive 3D volume of the breast. Unlike traditional handheld ultrasound, in which a technician moves a probe over the breast to produce 2D images, QT automatically collects transmission and reflection ultrasound information to produce standardized, reproducible 3D imaging. 

During the scan, a woman lies face-down on a specially designed table, with one breast gently suspended in a warm water bath. A scanning ring moves around the breast using sound waves to capture detailed images. The process is then repeated for the other breast. There is no breast compression, radiation or contrast injection. 

The experience also differs from MRI, which provides detailed 3D imaging but typically involves lying inside an enclosed scanner and may require contrast injection. 

 Another Tool for Breast Health 

Dense breast tissue can make mammograms more difficult to interpret. QT imaging can provide clinicians with additional 3D structural information and may be particularly useful as supplemental imaging for women with dense breasts, implants or other circumstances requiring additional breast evaluation. 

“We are especially excited about QT’s potential for women with a strong family history of breast cancer, genetic or other high-risk factors, or dense breast tissue,” Einsohn and Sridharan say. 

QT breast imaging is FDA-cleared for breast imaging in adults 18 and older, but it is important for women to understand that it is categorized as supplemental imaging and is not intended to replace screening mammography. Women should discuss their age, breast density, family history, individual risk factors and previous imaging with their healthcare provider when determining the appropriate approach to breast health. 

“Our goal is to give women and their physicians more information, more options and a more personalized approach to breast health,” the doctors say. 

If a QT scan identifies an area requiring further evaluation, the images are interpreted by a qualified breast-imaging radiologist, who prepares a report using standardized breast-imaging terminology. Depending on the findings and the woman’s medical history, additional diagnostic imaging, short-term imaging follow-up or other evaluation may be recommended. 

For Einsohn and Sridharan, bringing the technology to Dallas is ultimately about giving North Texas women access to another breast-imaging resource close to home. 

“For women, particularly those with dense breasts, breast implants or a need for additional imaging, we want them to know that now they have access to this technology close to home,” they say. “For physicians, our goal is to provide an additional source of high-quality imaging information that can complement existing breast imaging and support more informed clinical decisions.”
