Cowtown Race Helps Disadvantaged Youth

Established in 1979, The Cowtown races are presented by the University of North Texas Health Science Center, Chase, HCA North Texas, MillerCoors, Star-Telegram, and NBC 5. For the fourth year, Cook Children’s Health Care System is the title sponsor of the Kids 5K event named the Cowtown Cook Children’s 5K. The 38th annual Cowtown multi-race event will take place from February 26 to 28 at the Will Rogers Memorial Center, in Fort Worth. All events include a wheelchair division, and a Health and Fitness Expo will be held on February 26 and 28.

The Children’s Activities for Life and Fitness (CALF) received $200,000 from the Cowtown Board of Directors to emphasizes the importance of good physical fitness in the community by working with local schools and community centers in teaching proper running, training and nutrition to area youth in preparation for participating in The Cowtown, as well as a lifetime of fitness. These funds will allow children to receive proper training in good running habits, be fitted in quality shoes and receive financial grants to help offset registration fees for the races. Last year, the program disbursed 5,000 financial grants and running shoes to North Texas school children.
