Night Hikes at Lewisville Lake

Trail guides will lead a unique moonlit stroll down the Redbud Trail, along Lake Lewisville, from 6:30 to 8 p.m., November 4. Participants may hear some bumps in the night, but have no fear; it’s probably just an armadillo. Howling coyotes, hooting owls and other nocturnal sounds will provide an out-of-the-ordinary hiking experience that may even be better than trick-or-treating. No flashlights are necessary, and the hike will be rescheduled in the event of rain. Registration is required and participants should wear long pants, closed toe shoes and a jacket.

Other events at LLELA during November include a Bird Walk, at 7:30 p.m., November 12, 7:30 a.m.; an open house at the Minor-Porter Log House from 12 to 3 p.m., November 19, 12:00 to 3:00 p.m.; and a Bison Tour, at 2 p.m., November 27. Participants will drive out to the prairie to see the bison up close.

The Lewisville Lake Environmental Learning Area (LLELA) comprises 2,000 acres of prairies, forests, and wetlands, managed as a wildlife preserve by a group of agencies including the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, the University of North Texas, the City of Lewisville, Lewisville ISD, and Texas A & M University. Their mission is to preserve and restore our native ecosystems and to provide and promote environmental education and scientific research.
