How appropriate that May, which brings the beauties of Mother’s Day, also brings us timely, cutting-edge information about Women’s Wellness. Mothers are one of the most precious gifts that God has given us all, and they deserve to be honored every day of the year, with a caring commensurate with the care they have given us through the years. I know I plan to lavish my own Mother with that which she cherishes most from me – my time.

In this luscious pre-summer season in the Metroplex and North Texas communities, we like celebrating everything outdoors and love to indulge in it all, from the beautiful days and hanging out with Mom to delighting in locally grown foods and neighborhood festivals. In addition to our monthly Calendar of Events, on page 26, you’ll find our inaugural Local Resources Guide to direct you to some of our wonderful community partners in the Metroplex, where you can indulge your senses and desires for fresh produce.

I love how author and Chef Renée Loux combines her passions for health, good food and sustainability in “Foods for Ageless Beauty,” on page 24. Hers is a recipe for beauty from the inside out that delivers a safe, effective, affordable alternative to cosmetics. She’s joined by several local chefs, who share their own secrets to eating our way to beauty, on (page 25), yet another reason to grow your own produce or shop at a local farm market. To top it all off, we’ve directed you to The Campaign for Safe Cosmetics (SafeCosmetics.org), which offers tips on how to make everything from safe red lip gloss to a yummy chocolate facial mask.

Pleasant weather encourages longer walks with our dogs, which need special care as they age. On page 16, Dr. Gene Giggleman, of Parker College of Chiropractic, tells us what we need to know about a canine condition called cognitive dissonance, which some name animal Alzheimer’s. Read his words of advice for natural ways to give comfort and make life easier for our four-legged friends.

We look forward to seeing you at the inaugural outdoor Earth Day Dallas, a two-day downtown celebration on April 22 and 23. Natural Awakenings–Dallas Metroplex edition is pleased to be a media sponsor for what promises to be a splendid premiere event.

Until next month, when we will highlight Men’s Wellness (with plenty of tips that cross over to women, too), please patronize our advertisers; these vital community partners make it possible for us to bring you fresh, newsworthy and informative articles each month that we hope provide a beneficial catalyst for green, healthy and sustainable living throughout our region. Remember: Healthy living is green and Green living is healthy.

Blessings,
