Poetry Inspires Spiritual Wellness
Dr. Jerron C. Hill is a board-certified anesthesiologist and medical director of Ketamine Health & Wellness Center of Texas. His second venture, Dr. CBD & Nutrition Centers, offers professional grade cannabidiol (CBD) and nutraceuticals. When he's not running two wellness businesses or performing anesthesiology services in the Dallas-Metroplex hospitals and surgical centers, he finds solace in writing inspirational, contemporary poetry. His first book, HEALING FOR THE SOUL: FOOD FOR THOUGHT, was released in August 2023.
"In 2009, I had a vision of myself writing poetry. God gives us dreams and visions. That same weekend, I wrote 11 poems," Hill recalls.
Hill continued to write and attended several spoken word events in local churches around the Dallas Metroplex. After a writing hiatus that spanned nearly a decade, the muse struck again—in August 2020, Hill picked up his pen.
His writing is interwoven with current events and culture. "My first poems are entitled 'America, Who's Your God?' and 'America, Who's Your God, Part 2.' I kept writing for two years and decided to seek publishing opportunities.
Hill sees his own growth and maturity when comparing the poetry, he'd in 2011 to his more recent work. But there are similarities. "All of the poems come from my relationship as a follower of Jesus Christ," says Hill, age 63. "I've been a follower of Jesus Christ since age 23. As we grow and advance, we gain more knowledge and wisdom. It's a maturation process as we go through the journeys in life."
As a physician that specializes in natural healing, Hill emphasizes that the book, hence the title, deals with HEALING FOR THE SOUL. "Our minds, will, intellect and emotions are all part of our souls," he says. "When you read the book, spiritual healing of the soul, and a deeper revelation of who God is, is its purpose.
Hill considers his book a compass to help one navigate the challenges and difficulties of life. He describes each poem as having admonishment for love, repentance, encouragement, and enlightenment. He emphasizes that the poems were written with love and compassion and are for everyone, both believers and non-believers.
Some readers use HEALING FOR THE SOUL as a daily devotional, Hill says, and notes that it can also be used as a study guide, in book clubs, or in religious courses at secular and non-secular schools to bring about class discussions.
Hill doesn't consider himself a professional writer, but like many authors, he felt the need to share his work with others. He's energized and inspired by the process, and how God speaks to him about certain topics. Others influence him, as well. "My wife once said, 'you need to say what you pray. ' When I heard that, I thought that would be a great title for a poem."
When reading HEALING FOR THE SOUL, Hill hopes that readers will have a divine encounter with God and hear His words speak to their hearts. "If you read the poems, you should expect to hear from God, because He loves us all."
Dr. Hill continues to write poetry and is looking forward to releasing Volume Il to
Healing for the Soul. Meanwhile, Ketamine Health & Wellness Center of Texas, Hill's Ketamine center (IVKI) is where he specializes in treating patients with a myriad of mood disorders, depression, anxiety, PTSD, and pain management for arthritis, migraine headaches, neuropathy, fibromyalgia, and other chronic pain disorders. Dr. Hill combines his ketamine and wellness practice which provides a wellness regime for stress management, clinical nutrition, and exercise counseling. Hill will celebrate its seventh anniversary on March 1, 2024. He plans to launch a podcast, along with an annual community luncheon called Shedding Light on Depression, in 2024.
"I want to educate and bring attention to suicide, particularly the alarmingly increased suicidal rates in teenagers and young adults," Hill says.
Hill opened Dr. CBD & Nutrition Centers nearly five years ago to educate the public concerning CBD and the body's endocannabinoid system (ECS). He offers quality CBD as a natural alternative to help stimulate the ECS. "I want to educate people in making more informed decisions about their health," he says.
