North Texans will soon have a new way to travel across the region and directly to the airport. On Saturday, October 25, Dallas Area Rapid Transit (DART) will officially open the Silver Line, a 26-mile commuter rail that connects Plano, Richardson, Dallas, Addison, Carrollton, Coppell, and Grapevine with Dallas Fort Worth International Airport.
The expansion is the largest in decades for DART and marks a new era for regional mobility. Designed with modern Stadler trains, new stations, and seamless transfers, the Silver Line will make it easier for residents to reach jobs, schools, cultural hubs, and DFW Airport without relying on cars.
To celebrate, DART will offer free rides across its entire system on October 25. The Silver Line itself will remain free through November 8, giving everyone a chance to experience the new service firsthand. Festivities at select stations will include live music, cultural performances, and family-friendly activities.
“This state-of-the-art train will improve connections, create new access to jobs, and drive economic growth across North Texas,” said Nadine Lee, DART president and CEO. Board Chair Gary Slagel added that the project is both a promise kept and an investment in future generations.
The Silver Line is also expected to deliver environmental benefits by reducing traffic congestion and improving air quality—important steps for a growing region looking to balance mobility with sustainability.
With the launch, North Texans can look forward to a cleaner, more connected future—and an easier trip to the airport.
