Dallas Getting Big New Wilderness Park

Dallas has acquired 282 acres of new park space north of Cedar Ridge Preserve from the Trust for Public Land known as Big Cedar Wilderness to preserve in perpetuity. The property is part of the Balcones escarpment, with hiking and mountain biking trails, pristine wildlife habitat, creeks, tributaries, hills, cliffs and more than 50,000 thousand trees. Formerly used for recreation and respite by Brad Philips and the Liberty Bankers Insurance Group, it will become a natural area and public park. It is valued at more than $17 million.

Dallas Mayor Eric L. Johnson says, “Big Cedar Wilderness is a critical amenity, and our commitment to preserving and enhancing it will ensure more Dallas residents have the opportunity to enjoy this exceptional green haven.”

Texas State Director for Trust for Public Land Robert Kent states, “We look forward to working with these stakeholders and community members to help make Big Cedar Wilderness an even better place to engage with nature, improve health and to connect with each other.”

A celebration is planned RBA at the Patriot Pavilion near 8991 Isom Lane, Dallas. For more information, visit tpl.org.
