Texans seeking personalized nutrition guidance now have a new statewide resource. Healthier Texas, a nonprofit dedicated to improving health outcomes, has launched Nutrition Navigation, a virtual nutrition counseling service that connects adults with Registered Dietitians through convenient telehealth appointments.
The new fee-for-service program offers individualized support for healthy eating, weight management, digestive health, chronic disease prevention and management, and overall wellness. By providing virtual access to nutrition professionals, the program aims to reduce barriers to care, particularly for Texans living in rural and underserved communities where Registered Dietitians are often difficult to access.
Research continues to demonstrate the powerful role nutrition plays in preventing chronic disease. According to Healthier Texas, more than 90 percent of U.S. counties lack adequate access to Registered Dietitian nutrition professionals. Findings from the CDC's National Diabetes Prevention Program also show that lifestyle changes resulting in modest weight loss can reduce the risk of developing Type 2 diabetes by as much as 58 percent.
