Conservation Accelerator Seeks Texas-Led Projects

Dec 31, 2025 08:38AM ● By Bernice Butler

Texan by Nature—founded by former First Lady Laura Bush—is now accepting applications for its 2026 Conservation Wrangler, an 18-month accelerator program that supports high-impact, science-based conservation projects across Texas.

The Conservation Wrangler program identifies and advances Texan-led initiatives that demonstrate a positive Return on Conservation, delivering measurable benefits for people, prosperity and natural resources. Eligible projects may focus on wildlife, land or water; operate in urban or rural settings; and address conservation challenges in any region of the state.

Each year, up to six projects are selected through a competitive application process emphasizing proven impact. Selected Conservation Wrangler projects receive customized support that may include program management, strategic planning, marketing and messaging development, metrics capture and analysis, professional content production and partnership development.

Projects are publicly announced during the first week of April and highlighted at Texan by Nature’s annual Conservation Summit. Past participants report strengthened strategies, expanded funding sources and increased conservation impact statewide.

The 2026 Conservation Wrangler application period is now open and closes January 30, 2026.
