The Dallas Group of Sierra Club invites outdoor enthusiasts to experience the dramatic landscapes of Big Bend National Park during a multi-day camping, hiking and backpacking outing, February 18–23, 2026. Registration is open and required, with early sign-up encouraged due to limited group sizes.
Participants may choose from three guided itineraries, including day hikes returning to the same campsite, a High Chisos backpacking trip, or the strenuous Outer Mountain Loop for experienced backpackers. Planned highlights may include the South Rim of the Chisos Mountains, the Rio Grande Hot Springs, Santa Elena Canyon and Emory Peak, the park’s highest summit.
The trip fee is $100 per person and covers group campsite reservations, hiking permits and outing program expenses, with excess funds supporting Dallas Sierra Club conservation efforts. An additional $30 per vehicle park entry fee applies unless a National Parks pass is presented. Participants provide their own food, gear and transportation and typically carpool from North Texas, coordinating travel directly with trip leaders and fellow hikers.
Known for its striking range of desert, canyon and mountain ecosystems, Big Bend also offers opportunities to spot wildlife such as javelinas, mule deer, foxes, bobcats and, on occasion, black bears.
