North Texas Artist Uses Creativity to Support Cancer Survivors

Jun 30, 2026 08:34AM ● By Bernice Butler

Artist and board-certified nurse coach Kate Cruickshank is combining creativity and compassion to help support individuals navigating cancer. Through the sale of her colorful butterfly-inspired artwork, Cruickshank helps fund free cancer coaching services for people facing diagnosis, treatment, recovery and survivorship.

Her artwork is inspired by themes of resilience, transformation and hope, reflecting the journeys of many cancer patients and survivors. By channeling proceeds from art sales into coaching services, she is helping make emotional support and guidance more accessible to those facing some of life's most difficult challenges.

Cruickshank recently gained national recognition through her participation in The People's Artist competition, presented by actor and artist Johnny Depp. While the competition celebrates artistic achievement, Cruickshank views the opportunity as another way to bring awareness to the needs of cancer patients and the importance of whole-person support throughout the healing journey.

Research continues to show that creative expression can play a valuable role in emotional well-being, helping reduce stress, build resilience and foster connection during times of illness and recovery.
