International Men’s Health Week Promotes Prevention and Wellness

May 29, 2026 08:34AM ● By Bernice Butler

International Men’s Health Week will be observed June 14 through 21, encouraging men and boys to take a more proactive approach to physical, mental and emotional well-being. First launched globally in 2002, the annual observance raises awareness around preventable health conditions, stress, mental health challenges and chronic diseases that disproportionately affect men.

Organizations including the Men's Health Network and Global Action on Men's Health use the week to encourage regular medical checkups, early screenings and healthier lifestyle habits focused on long-term vitality and prevention.

A featured part of the observance is “Wear Blue Friday” on June 19, when businesses, community groups and individuals are encouraged to wear blue in support of men’s health awareness and open conversations around wellness.

Health advocates say the week also reflects a growing national conversation about redefining strength to include resilience, recovery, emotional well-being and preventive self-care.
