Guided Hikes Encourage Outdoor Wellness at Lake Mineral Wells

May 29, 2026 08:40AM ● By Bernice Butler

Lake Mineral Wells State Park & Trailway will host a variety of guided hikes and ranger-led educational programs throughout June, inviting Texans to explore nature while staying active during the early summer season.

Located in Mineral Wells, known as the “Wellness Capital of Texas,” the park’s weekend programs include birding walks, guided hikes through the scenic Penitentiary Hollow rock formations, nature presentations and evening stargazing experiences under the North Texas sky. Traditional cowboy campfire storytelling programs are also planned.

Organized by the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department, the programs are designed to encourage outdoor recreation, environmental appreciation and safe summer exploration. Park officials also remind visitors that June marks the beginning of heightened wildfire awareness season across Texas, making responsible outdoor practices especially important during hot, dry conditions.

Weekend programs are free with park admission. Admission is $7 for adults and free for children ages 12 and younger. Visitors are encouraged to bring water, wear sturdy shoes and dress appropriately for summer weather.
